Letter to the Editor

I recently did a presentation about bullying. I did a lot of research on the topic and found many startling statistics. According to MBNBD, 1 in 7 students in grades K-12 are a bully or a victim of bullying. Also, approximately 160,000 students miss school every day due to fear of attack. And last, 1 in 10 students drop out of school because of repeated bullying. These are really sad statistics and they need to be changed for the better.

When I was in my first grade year, I was bullied by a boy several years older than I. He was intimidating and abused people verbally. I let it go on for a long time and it didn’t stop until he left the school because I didn’t know how to stop it or who to tell about it.

Children are being bullied every day and schools should educate their students about bullying and what to do if they are being bullied because most children don’t know what to do or who to tell if they are a victim. By accomplishing this, we could change the MBNBD statistics.
