Late Night Service

December 1st Miners gathered together in the cafeteria for a night of service. Put together by SBO of Service Amber Murdock and Sophomore class officer Kaden DuPaix and the rest of student government the night was filled with hot cocoa, doughnuts, and the Christmas Classic, “Elf.”

But the students didn’t come to the cafeteria at 8 p.m to watch a movie they could have watched at home, the purpose of the event was to make blankets and Christmas cards for the refugee children coming to Utah.

With an overwhelming amount of participation, all the scissors were gone in a matter of minutes as the volunteers went to work cutting and tying fleece to make blankets. The cafeteria was loud as students chatted while working, but every time there was a notable quote from the movie such as “Bye Buddy, hope you find your dad,” or “I’m in a store and I’m singing” the whole room would spontaneously say it together.

During the late night service, the miners were able to make several dozen blankets to send to the refugees, and were also able to come together for a good cause and bond over how to cut an inch of fabric, classic quotes from Will Ferrell, and feeling the warm feeling that comes from service.
