Mockingjay Part 2 Review

The end has come. The global phenomena known as the Hunger Games came out with their final movie, Mockingjay part 2, on November 20. When I first saw the preview, I thought to myself, “no way can I write this review!” The preview makes the movie out to be a sadistic and a never ending war involving aliens and explosions, but know this…it’s time to turn their weapons to the capital.

After winning the Hunger Games and surviving the Quarter Quell, Katniss and her band of rebels decide that it’s time for Snow to fall. In Mockingjay part 1, we meet District 13 and see the depression, death and horror the capital has caused. Mockingjay part 1 almost seems slow and bland, but that was no accident. The producers pushed all the action and death to part two of Mockingjay.

In part 2, District 13 saves Peeta from the capital and joins forces with the rebels of District 8. Using Peeta as a marketing tool and gaining an army from District 8 along with any other rebels, the Mockingjay is ready to go to war. Snow strategically placed pods all over the capital in preparation for the attack.

As the troops come up with a plan of action, Finnick refers to the war as the 76th Hunger Games, which proves to be true throughout the movie, because even though the deaths and violence are rarely bloody, they are intense. There are several stabbings, explosions, arrows, mutts, and what I like to call, the Black Death. Be prepared to hear blood-curdling screams, from the actors, and the audience.

And if you were hoping for a sappy love story where Katniss picks between Gale, her lifelong friend with gorgeous brown eyes that hold his humor and undying love for her. Or Peeta, the boy with the bread, with his chiseled jaw and kind heart, prepare to be heart-broken. Katniss instead spends her time trying to overthrow the capitol, so the only sappy love scene is towards the end. Which also happens to be my favorite part of the movie!

I’ll be honest with all of you; while I sat in my seat I could hear my heart racing, and it wasn’t from running up the theater steps. Watching this movie was extremely intense. I sat on the edge of my seat the entire movie. But this series was meant to leave an impact. Audiences across the nation agree that this was a fantastic movie and was worth the wait. With fast-paced timelines and action around every corner, the rebels realize, according to Peeta, “Our lives were never ours. They belong to Snow and our deaths do to. But if you kill him Katniss, if you end all of this, all these deaths…they mean something.” They stopped believing in false promises and fought for what they knew was right, even when they had to lose those closest to them. If by this point you haven’t seen Mockingjay part 2 yet, I strongly recommend you to do so. Mockingjay part 2 was a wonderful way to end the saga of The Girl on Fire.
