Understanding Art

It’s okay to not fully get art. What is not okay is judging it without actually trying to comprehend it.

Art was never meant to be easily understood. But as ambiguous as it might seem, art has encompassed our history through pictorial and visual self-expression, which has given human beings a sense of freedom and beauty over time. However, art was never meant to be easily understandable, or as Banksy, a British artist, once said, “Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”

Sometimes we get lost trying to find the meaning behind the artwork, which, in my opinion, has severely affected human interest in the arts. And don’t get me wrong here, I’m not saying everyone should appreciate art as much as others do, we all have different interests, but many people take it for granted without giving it a chance. What saddens me is the fact that people don’t share their well-structured opinions, instead, they only share judgemental comments without trying to understand what artists are trying to portray, or the efforts and passion they must have put into their work. Some just hardheartedly appreciate it.

What people fail to perceive is the importance of understanding art.  Art has been part of our history from the very beginning, it has enabled human civilizations to understand their past better.  But sadly, people believe there is nothing beyond what

They can see nothing beyond a painted canvas. According to the Artist, an online art network, art is important for many reasons, such as the powerful sentiments it elicits, the meaningful stories it tells, and its remarkable mode of depicting culture from all over the world.

It is important to understand that whether we appreciate art or not, it is a fact that art has enabled humans to express themselves since the beginning of our species.
