The movie that set the standard for science fiction films everywhere returns to the big screen. Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes to theaters across the country on the 18th of December. It continues the story of a galaxy far, far away, approximately thirty years after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The story shows a new spin on the classic tale that has defined a generation.
The movie has brought in a group of new actors to take the torch from the originals. Make sure to watch for these three main characters: Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren. Rey is played by Daisy Ridley, a twenty three year old English actress who, before Star Wars, had virtually no theater exposure, as were the two others. Finn is played by John Boyega, and Kylo Ren is played by Adam Driver. Kylo Ren is, as we can see in the teaser trailer, the new Darth Vader of the saga. If he will turn out to be just as iconic, only the movie will tell.
Most people in the world know about the Star Wars saga, have heard of it in some way. Many parents who lived during the premiere of the original trilogy pass down their love to their kids, who will now live to see the new era of Star Wars. The biggest difference in this new installment is the absence of Darth Vader in the trilogy. However, with the first glimpse of the mysterious Kylo Ren comes a shot of Darth Vader’s helmet, implying that his influence continues to affect the movie even after his death.
Although it is a new start for the movies, some characters will still be in the picture, which is really what makes the saga a whole lot more interesting. Han Solo, Leia, and Luke come back in the movie to present and set the stage for the new characters, and there are still key elements like the droids C-3PO and R2-D2, but we see a new droid, BB8.
Because of the advances in technology since the last movies, a ton of new designs have been implemented in the movie. The new designs for the TIE Fighters and X- Wings make the Starfighters look modern, sleek, and advanced, clearly showing the time lapse between now and the original trilogy. The Stormtroopers’ new armor takes key elements of what our generation sees it as the future and adapts it so it has a more modern, lustrous look, keeping some original components as well. Kylo Ren’s lightsaber, however, takes a turn for the old and shows us a long sword design to a futuristic weapon such as the iconic lightsaber.
So for the whole family’s pleasure, surely make some time on your calendar for the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Lots to expect from this renowned saga.
