A ‘Clue’ for the School Play

Bingham’s Theatre is giving me the best birthday present: opening night of “Clue”! The play is based off the popular murder mystery board game from Hasbro Games. They have the six main characters: Miss Scarlet, Mrs. White, Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum, Mr. Green, and Colonel Mustard. They have rehearsals almost every day to prepare for their show. Performances start Nov. 18, going through the 22, excluding Sunday, in the Copper Pit at Bingham.

Alexa Herrera, a senior at Bingham, is playing Mrs. Peacock, and cannot wait to perform. “My mama has been putting me in plays since I was two, but this is my first leading role in a high school performance,” she said. She loves the environment of the show and all the actors in it. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to work with everyone, especially my best friend, Taytum Ligman.” Herrera wants everyone to come see the show. She describes it as “hilarious, and you won’t want to miss it.”

For a look behind the scenes, I talked to the set designer Emma Powell, also a senior this year. Powell designs sets based on inspiration from the director, but things can change once in the rehearsal space. She will be designing all of the sets you will see used in the play. Powell says the sets will be minimalistic, but really cool. This show is unique because of the “in the round” style, meaning the audience sits on all sides of the stage. Powell has been doing theatre for six years. “I’m super excited for this show, just sitting in on rehearsal is a blast. We still have a lot to work on, but I know the final product will be amazing.”

I asked Powell what she wanted to say directly to the readers. She said, “This show is absolutely amazing and I recommend everyone comes and sees it. It will definitely be a show to never forget.”
