Everyone come on over to be serenaded by Jazz and Percussion at their concerts this year!
This year, the jazz and percussion had an amazing performance on November 14, 2023, from 3pm to 9pm. This was the only day that is focused solely on them, so they appreciate those who made it out to support the jazz and percussion band in their great accomplishments this year. Carson Anderson, a member of the jazz band, says, “It’s coming along really well. It’s a great show, and it’s really cool to see the drama and music department come together like this.” This shows that they are doing really well, and they were so excited to come together and perform for you all.
They also want you to know that they had a wonderful time performing in many of the other musical performances that the band does. This means you may have seen them much more than in just the concert outlining them. Jazz and percussion play pieces of jazz music, and have concerts while also playing in various other things. The jazz and percussion band is so amazing, in fact, that they had the opportunity to play the background music in the play this year. They played all the music in the musical, “42nd Street”. The musical was on the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 20th of November 2023. Jazz and percussion were so excited to perform for the play and they feel it is a great opportunity. Musician Enoch Brown says, “Playing in a jazz band is so fun! It’s my second year in the class and my favorite part is getting to play for all the other people. We [got] to play for the musical this year and it’s been so awesome because we get to combine two groups that normally wouldn’t be together.” This shows that he is excited this year because he gets to play for the musical while also have the opportunity to combine two groups to play together; it is definitely a special opportunity.
As mentioned before, the jazz and percussion band had a wonderful performance on the 14th of November, and it was very beautiful. There were a few setbacks- like the power going off and some of the instruments being gone- but because they are such a wonderful band, they pulled through and had a great performance. They are such a great group of people because they uplift each other and help each other through everything. Carson Anderson recaps what happened on jazz and percussion, saying, “Well, the power shut down as we were getting ready to perform, we got some spotlights out and we were ready to do it in the dark! Luckily, the lights turned back on right before we got started, and all the groups had a great performance.”
The jazz and percussion night was really fun, and although they had setbacks, they pushed through and made it a great night. The jazz and percussion band is awesome, and everyone should go watch their many other various performances.
