Snow in the South
The South was hit by a snowstorm on January 28, resulting in light snowfall but chaotic catastrophes. Atlanta, Georgia had less than three inches of snow yet the ill-prepared city suffered massive gridlock. Many people were stuck on freeways, having to sleep in their vehicles and enduring a 22 hour commute. A woman even gave birth in her car whilst stuck on a frozen highway. While there was help going around to the stranded travelers, the gridlock traffic and icy roads caused Atlanta chaos.
Ukraine Protests
Raging for over two months, Ukraine has endured a bloody anti-government protest. What started as a peaceful protest turned ugly on November 30th, 2013, when over a million people filled the square in the capital, Kyiv, after violence broke out. Many Ukrainians are angered over the corruption in the government and economic issues.
Gay Marriage
Utah hasn’t been the only conservative state involved with the gay marriage debate. A federal judge in Oklahoma recently ruled that the ban on same-sex marriage violated the federal Constitution. Virginia has had heated arguments over the issue as well. Utah’s case has been moved to the district court to be ruled upon.
Famous Actor Dead
Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his apartment on February 2nd. He acted in The Hunger Games, and Capote.
