Sports Review
Bingham High School is known for its sport’s teams; most notably, Football and Boys’
Basketball. This year all of Bingham’s sports teams have found success in most of their
endeavors.
This year Bingham’s Boys’ Basketball team won the State Championship. Our varsity
team beat Copper Hills with a score of 61 to 44, according to the official 5A State
Championship bracket. Though Copper Hills was in the lead at half time, Bingham came
through in the end and won.
Though the Minerettes came in second at state, they came out strong during nationals
in Florida and received first place. This win makes a total of eight National Championships
for the Minerettes, according to good4utah.com.
Bingham boys wrestling sent a couple of wrestlers to state to compete for the state
championship. Coby Vandertoolen, a senior at Bingham High School, who has been going to
the state matches for years finally earned his well-deserved title.
Currently, there are several sports in season. Softball and Baseball have several games
each week, the state championship tournaments will be held at the end of May. Both are
doing pretty well this season.
Boys’ Soccer is also in season. They are undefeated and they’re first in region. Girls’
Golf is also doing very well in their season. These girls are working hard and beating many
schools throughout the valley.
Track and Field, the sport with the most participants at Bingham, is also doing pretty
well. Many events make up our Track and Field team: sprints, long distance, pole vaulting,
“throws”, long jump, and many more. Bingham’s Track and Field won region for the boy’s
team and the girl’s team recently.
Boys Tennis is in season. Nathan Balls, currently a junior at Bingham, won the state
championship last year with his now-graduated doubles partner. They will all accomplish
great things this year.
Bingham Football made it to the semi-final game of the Utah 5A State Championship this
year. In their final game of the season at the Rice Eccles Stadium, the boys battled against Lone
Peak High School but were unfortunately unable to beat them. We lost 26 to 9.
Bingham High School is known for our success in sports. Every year, we achieve great
accomplishments because of our skilled athletes. We are proud of our status. Bingham is the
school to be if you are looking to be successful in athletics.
