Halloween. Glowing jack-o’-lanterns. Full moons. Haunted houses. The season is in full swing, but you’re missing one crucial detail: a costume.

According to History.com, “on Halloween, when it was believed that ghosts came back to the earthly world, people thought that they would encounter ghosts if they left their homes. To avoid being recognized by these ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark.” Although we don’t take this as seriously today, having a great Halloween costume is still important to us.

Imagine needing to leave for a Halloween party in less than an hour and you realize you don’t have a costume. Good Housekeeping comes to the rescue with their article 50+ Easy Last-Minute Halloween Costumes You Can Quickly DIY.  The article shows example costumes you can add your own twist to just by collecting things around the house.

A few of the costumes Good Housekeeping suggests are The Bachelorette (or The Bachelor), Brawny Man, and Hawaiian Punch. The Bachelorette costume only requires the best gown or suit you own paired with a bouquet of artificial roses that only cost $1 per rose at the Dollar Tree. When you’re at the Halloween party, ask everyone if they will “accept your rose.” You can take this costume even further by smudging your makeup around your eyes so you look like you’ve recently undergone an overdramatic heartbreak. This costume guarantees laughs and you’ll be the best-dressed person at the party. To be Brawny Man you’ll need a red and black plaid shirt paired with jeans and Brawny paper towels, which you can get three rolls for $4.47 at Walmart. For the Hawaiian Punch costume, you need a Hawaiian shirt, a lei, and boxing gloves. For bonus points, bring Hawaiian Punch ($1.88 at Walmart) to share with everyone at the party. These costumes are quick, funny, and inexpensive: exactly what a last-minute costume should be.

No matter what you dress up as, be creative. Last minute-costumes are some of the best Halloween costumes because when you pull it together the hour before the party, chances are it’s going to be creative. You can walk proudly into that party knowing you saved yourself time and money by doing it yourself. Happy Halloween, Miners!
