Welcome back miners! To start the year off with a good book, follow this list and you’ll surely be entertained. The first book is Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee. Most of Bingham is familiar with Harper’s first book To Kill a Mockingbird. Watchman still uses the same characters in her first book. Watchman is about 26 year old Jean “Scout” Louise going from New York to visit her elderly father in Maycomb Alabama, and revisits her childhood memories and the challenge they face in their current time period. Harper Lee herself told the world that Mockingbird will be the one and only book that will be published by her, so this book will be a prized possession. Harper Lee, who is now 89, stumbled upon her rough script for Watchman this past year and decided to publish it.
The second book is Binge by the famous YouTuber Tyler Oakley. It is a biography about Tyler himself, his mishaps in high school, like crashing his car in front of the entire school, and his long adventurous journey that started from working at Arby’s to being watched by millions of fans. He also talks about his weight issues that he has struggled with practically his whole life and how he has defeated his demons and is now being loved by millions.
The third book is Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas, which is the fourth addition to the Throne of Glass series. It is about Celaena Sardothien as she accepts to face her past and goes after what belongs to her, her kingdom. She learns to accept that she is Queen Aelin Galathynius. She will fight for her people who are being abused by their current king. The fourth edition of this series will surely capture your heart and imagination as Celaena continues her journey.
The fourth book is called Dumplin by Julie Murphy. It’s about a girl named Willowdean Dickson who is on the heavy side but has always been comfortable in her own skin and has never been afraid to show off her curves. One day she meets a handsome jock named Bo. She falls for Bo and is happily surprised when she finds out he feels the same way. On this discovery, she starts to doubt herself and her body. To lift her spirits once again she joins the local beauty pageant to prove that she belongs up to be up there just as any other girl.
The last book is called Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon, which if you are a fan of The Fault in Our Stars, Eleanor and Park and If I stay, this book will surely win your heart. It’s about a girl named Maddy to practically everything outside and spends all of her days inside her room reading books. One day, she sees a moving truck next door; including a boy named Olly that she knows she is going to fall in love with and can promise that it will be a disaster.
