Classic Rock Needs More Appreciation

There is so much you can learn from classic rock. From the sweet sound of the Beatles, to the unique songs by Queen, classic rock has set the stage and made a huge impact on the music we listen to today and the world around us.

Classic rock is a very wide genre that covers songs from before the 60’s to the 80’s. It has made a huge impact on pop culture.

In school, the influence of classic rock is everywhere. You see it on posters in classrooms, on people’s shirts and even listen to some of that music in history class.  Classic rock has influenced fashion throughout decades a well. Take The Beatles for example.

According to Olivia Baker, an entertainment reporter with USA Today, The Beatles impacted not only the 60’s, but impacted other eras of rock and fashion ever since. Even if you don’t dress like the Beatles, chances are you have a Beatles shirt somewhere in your closet.

Classic rock has had a huge impact on pop culture, and not just in the music it has made. In 2018, the movie Bohemian Rhapsody hit theatres and wowed everyone. Everyone was talking about it and some went the theatres to see it more than once.

With a 61% on Rotten Tomatoes, this iconic movie is about Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen. Ann Hornaday, a movie critic with the Washington post said, “…  the sum of “Bohemian Rhapsody” winds up being giddily entertaining, first as an exercise in so-bad-it’s-funny kitsch, and ultimately as something far more meaningful and thrilling.”

Bohemian Rhapsody definitely had an impact on people, and even got high schoolers exposed to the iconic sounds and stories influenced by classic rock.

Movies are not the only part of pop culture that classic rock influenced. The Beatles really changed the way we view music. The Beatles helped make music videos a popular thing. Today, music videos are a huge part of pop culture. Music videos are the popular thing to do now when an artist has a huge release, and today, many people talk more about the music video than they do about the music.

Classic rock needs to be more appreciated because of all the impacts it has on our modern world. Look down at whatever Pink Floyd,The Beatles or Metallica shirt you may have on, branch out and let the sweet sounds of classic rock make an impact on you.
