College Football
The Bingham High School student section is hyped every Friday to watch our football team rally against some of the best teams in the state. But our intensity is little compared to the student sections at the colleges here in Utah, and that’s largely because of the teams they’re cheering for.
Thousands of fans, young and old, gather together to watch the college football teams here in Utah play against each other and against teams from other states.
After a stumbling start at the beginning of the season, losing against Pac-12 teams Washington and Washington State, the University of Utah Utes have gone on to beat Stanford, Arizona, USC, and UCLA. The Utes now stand 4-3 in their conference and 6-3 overall after losing to Arizona State on November 3rd. According to the Deseret News the Utah Utes are on their way to a bowl championship if they continue winning and are favored to win against their arch rival, BYU.
Brigham Young University is having a decent season sitting at 4-5 in their overall standings. The Cougars kicked off their season with a win against Arizona but then lost to Utah State University. Since then, BYU has played pretty consistently, balancing their losses and victories equally for the moment. Although the Cougars aren’t favored to win against the Utes they are sure to put up a fight no one in the state will want to miss.
The Utah State University Aggies have had an exceptional season. After losing their first game to Michigan State they are standing 5-0 in their conference and 8-1 in their overall season. The Aggies have surprised many Utah fans this year with a student section big and rowdy enough to rival the Utah University MUSS and a football team that destroyed BYU with a final score of 45-20.
Weber State University has also had a great season. They are currently standing 6-2, winning against opponents Montana State and North Dakota University. Their two losses ironically come from Utah teams USU and the U of U. The Southern Utah University Thunderbirds are struggling this season and are standing 1-7. According to the Tribune, Weber State is favored against the Thunderbirds in their game on November 10th.
Utah may not have an NFL team, but we have some of the biggest football fans cheering on a variety of college football teams in the state. Our football teams are doing exceptionally well this season and we can most likely look forward to bowl games at the end of this season.
