Bingham’s Coed Swim Team

Bingham’s Coed Swim Team kicked off their season last month on November 8th and had an invitational swim meet on November 16 and 17. They will resume their competitive season after the break on January 9th.

The kick-off meet against the Box Elder Bees on November 8th was a good introductory meet for all of newcomers to the swim team. Coach Rachael Kankamp said,“There are a lot of new kids, so it was good for them to get their feet wet.” There are currently forty-seven swimmers that make up the team, including 12 freshman, 17 sophomores, 8 juniors, and 10 seniors. The results of the first meet are as follows, Junior Lexi Middleton won first place in the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle races, with senior Cayla Callus finishing second in both, along with Bingham securing the top three spots on the 100-yard backstroke.

Their second meet held on November 16th and 17th also went well. They competed with over 600 other swimmers at the Bingham invitational. In the 200-yard individual medley, Junior Sara Wimmer finished fourth, with freshman Sienna Christensen in sixth, and sophomore Natalie Aguilar in ninth. Wimmer also finished seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke, followed right behind with senior Jaydee Guy who finished eighth. They also had a strong showing in the 100-yard freestyle and backstroke, with junior Jessica Gilchrist placing fifth in the freestyle and sixth in the backstroke.

In an interview with coach Kankamp, she said “We definitely have a lot of room for improvement… I am glad to have the first meet under our belt.” She is incredibly proud of her team, and we should be too here at Bingham. They have had a strong start in this swimming season, and by this point, they can only improve.

The Bingham swim team looks very good this year, and sees even more room for improvement. With strong coaches, and a positive attitude, the Bingham High School Swim Team looks like it will be a force to be reckoned with. Their next meets will be December 14th and 15th at Fairmont Aquatic Center, and games on the 9th and 10th of January.
