How was the Louvre robbed? Who did it? Why did they do it? And can you do it? Unfortunately, you can’t rob the Louvre (legally), but it was recently robbed, and eight pieces of priceless jewelry were stolen. How did they get away with robbing one the most famous museums in broad daylight?
On October 19, 2025, the Louvre Museum in Paris, France was robbed, and eight pieces of jewelry worth $102 million USD were stolen. From the beginning to the end of the robbery was eight minutes. The thieves were able to enter the Louvre dressed as construction workers and used an angle grinder and other power tools to cut through a window and the display cases.
This is not the first time the Louvre Museum was robbed. In 1911, the Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre. The thief, Vincenzo Peruggia, had hid in a closet and removed the painting from the wall. Officials didn’t know that the robbery had occurred until twenty-eight hours later. The painting was hidden in Peruggia’s apartment for two years until he later contacted an art dealer offering to return it for a reward. Peruggia was arrested.
Four people have been suspected of participating in the robbery. Two of the thieves were already known to police due to past burglary cases. Currently, none of the stolen items have been recovered. An additional fifth suspect, a partner of one of the men was charged with being an accomplice but has been released.
Students at Bingham High School do not know much about the robbery. In a survey sent out to Bingham Students, Lilly Wong told us “Something was stolen ;)” and Mercedes Tayner told us “Everything, I am the robber” when asked what they knew about the robbery.
When asked if it is as important as the media makes it out to be, Averi Van Der Veur told us “Uh I guess so! But like also what am I supposed to do about it?” and Melissa Clark told us that she “[hasn’t] seen much about it.”
Melissa Clark also noted “[i]t was Grant Best and he’s writing an article to cover up his crimes” when asked where she thought the jewels were now. Grant has never been out of the country. Emily Clark to that same question said “Aliens came and grabbed them and then opened a hole in the Earth to throw them into Earth’s core.”
The investigation is still ongoing, and new details are still coming out. Please take the quotes with a grain or two of salt. For the most up-to-date news, please refer to your local or other news sources. And unfortunately, you cannot rob the Louvre (legally).
