The halls groan with the moans of sleepy students.
The homework plague started back in September when the AP teachers started assigning major homework. The school has not been the same; however, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. May. When the AP tests will nearly extinguish the main homework load. But how do you survive until then while passing the test and the class?
The good news is that this is a yearly cycle, so there are many veterans before us and there will be after us. That’s why we have AP master senior Wesley Truman to help give us advice from what he learned after tackling four AP tests in one year (With two of them being on the same day!) His main advice is to “keep doing your homework by its due date” and that “you can do anything that you put your mind to.” While this may seem way too easy, and it might not work for everyone, it is still very important to give it a try. But avoiding the homework load will only make it harder to push through.
There are many ways to get your homework done before the due date. The most common way is to wait until the last minute and stay up until 1AM the night before it’s due, but that’s a terrible idea. However, the better way is to complete your homework as soon as you get it. While it is generally harder to do, being proactive will help you in the long run because you will do better work and get more sleep the night before it is due.
But what about the students who never take an AP class? For them, the best way to survive is to simply never skip a class, especially the morning ones. It is very difficult to turn in assignments when you never learn how to complete them. As well, most classes build on what you learn, so missing a large amount of class creates a vicious cycle that turns you from a very reliable student to one of the runners. It is a sad sight to see all the sleepy AP students walking around and the never-shows-up students infecting their friends.
The cure for sleep deprivation and the cure for absenteeism are very different. The cure for sleep deprivation will vary person to person, but the solution is generally to go to bed earlier. But that is not always possible with the amount of homework assigned. Try to get your homework done early and don’t stay awake longer than needed. For absenteeism, the most effective way is to have someone force you to go to school and not stay home sleeping.
While difficult, there have been many generations of Bingham students before you. If all these people have made it, then you can get through graduation and get all of your assignments done. It’s your destiny.
