School House Rock

Many students want to find ways to improve their grades. One great way to do that is to study a musical instrument. Studying a musical instrument can help you at school. Just listening to music in certain ways can help improve the amount of information you retain.

There was a study published by the American Psychological Association that showed people who study music got better scores on their English, math, and science exams than those who don’t. Studying music helps increase your memory and attention span which helps you when studying other things too.  This helps you on tests because you can remember what you studied and you can focus on what the questions are asking. It also helped increase students’ focus when studying and taking tests. While music and art programs usually are the first ones to go if a school needs to make cuts for funding, these classes are actually very beneficial for students’ academics.

Other studies have shown that playing certain types of music can relieve stress or anger. Slow, classical music can help calm down students. When studying this kind of music, students showed a more relaxed and refocused emotional outlook in other classes. When studying more loud pop or rock music, kids, especially those who play guitars and drums, found a way to relieve any built-up anger they might have.

Listening to music can also help you in school if you use it in the right way. If you listen to music that connects to the topic you are studying, it can help you retain that information. But you have to be careful and make sure it doesn’t become a distraction. Music can awaken students mentally, physically, emotionally, and boost energy. Studies tested the difference between vocal and instrumental music and it showed that vocal music can be just as distracting as people actually talking while you are studying.

There are many benefits to learning a musical instrument or listening to music. It will help you in school. It can improve your mood and reduce stress. Many different types of music have different benefits.  So enjoy some music or maybe learn a new instrument and remember all the benefits that can come from that.
