Many fans around the world excitedly tuned in to watch their favorite sport and unwind when suddenly, they were greeted with a bright, neon court and brand new jerseys. If you are one of the many confused fans, I’m here to help explain what the NBA In-Season Tournament is, how it works, and what predictions we have.

For starters, What is the In-Season Tournament? The In-Season Tournament is a brand new event for the NBA where 30 teams are divided into 6 groups of 5 teams. Each team plays members of its own group once, then 8 teams advance into a single-game elimination tournament. The team in each group with the best record in group-play games will advance, along with the team from each conference with the best record in group-play games that finished second in its group. The winners of the entire tournament will receive $500,000 and an MVP trophy for the most valuable player in the tournament.

With teams vying for the title and an added incentive, every team will be giving it their all to win the tournament, but who will come out on top? The Milwaukee Bucks, led by their formidable duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, stand as strong contenders. Their cohesion, championship experience, and sheer talent make them a formidable force on the court. Out west, the Phoenix Suns, boasting an impressive roster led by Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, are looking like serious challengers who could very well win it all in this tournament.

One team who many are surprised to see having major success lately is the Pelicans, who currently are the #3 seed in the tournament. With Zion healthy, he has been able to help this team fight their way to the Elite Eight of the tournament, and has put the team back on track to win the tournament.

With all the potential storylines and major contenders playing in this tournament, it’s a surprise to no one how interesting this has been. Now with the final Elite Eight set for the tournament, it’s anyones game.
