In 2034 the world will be turning their heads and tuning in their screens to life in Utah as the Winter Olympic Games return to the beehive state. More than 30 years after Salt Lake City first hosted them in 2002. This is a huge moment for our state and students everywhere are already buzzing with excitement!
Salt Lake City was officially chosen as the host city for the 2034 Winter Olympics and Paralympics by the International Olympic Committee. This will be only the second time Utah hosts the Winter Games, making it one of the very few places in the United States to host twice.
Although this big event isn’t happening until February 10, 2034, preparations for the event have already begun. Most of the competition sites that were used in 2002 will be reused – including Deer Valley, Park City Mountain, Utah Olympic Park, and Soldier Hollow. That means that no new huge buildings will have to be constructed, and the organizers can focus more on upgrading and improving infrastructure that already exists.
Every venue that the Olympics will be hosted at is within about an hour drive of the main athletes village at the University of Utah, making this one of the most conveniently arranged Olympic Games yet.
