“…3…2…1…” as the whole class screams. The last day of school was finally here for the seniors at Lyceum High, and as Averi started heading home from school she could not have been more excited for her adventure ahead. As she got home, there were her older brother and Mom waiting for her. When she stepped through the door she knew that she would have to say goodbye to the people she loved most in just a few hours. With the rest of the day left together, they made a nice dinner and watched the sunset from the Pier. That night, Averi got no sleep, she was ready for the journey ahead. In the morning as her brother loaded her bags and surfboard, she hugged her mom goodbye for the next few months, and wheeled onto her new home. As the ocean whisked her away, she waved goodbye to her family at the dock from the boat. There was hard work ahead of her, but she was ready. As she got settled in, she had three days until they would arrive in Greece. The first thing on her checklist was to prepare the kitchen. She placed her knives on the block and got her cutting boards out, along with all of her other equipment and started to practice cooking. Before she knew it, they had arrived in Greece. With a night left before the guests arrived, Averi spent her last few moments before working long hours for the next months to get off of the ship. It wasn’t long before she became part of a huge party going on in the streets. Tapping him on the shoulder, she asked the little boy “What is happening?”. Yelling back to her he said “It’s Apokries!”, and started wheeling her into the crowd. That night she dreamed about the boy who showed her the best Greek food and spent the night laughing with her during Carnival.
