Mrs. Heather Davidson is an English teacher at Bingham High School, who also babysits the Bingham Prospector.
Mrs. Davidson grew up in American Fork, Utah and graduated from American Fork High School in 2014. She has been teaching at Bingham High School for six years.
Mrs. Davidson teaches multiple different English classes. She teaches classes such as 12th Grade Language Arts, Taylor Swift Literature, Holocaust Literature and the School Newspaper.
Growing up, both of Mrs. Davidson’s parents were teachers. She wanted to become a teacher because she loves the subject of English. She loves teaching about it. Mrs. Davidson said in an interview that another reason that she became a teacher was because “Teenagers get a lot of flack for being terrible, and I think that they’re not terrible.”
Mrs. Davidson’s greatest strength in teaching is trying to meet students where they are at. She told the Bingham Prospector “Starting where a student is and working from there, versus [you] expecting them to be perfect right from the beginning.”
Mrs. Davidson says that a good day at schools is “when students are engaged and when they’re there and they’re ready to learn.” She also said “When students are willing to have fun and go outside their comfort zone a little bit, that’s what makes a class in school a little bit better.”
When asked what makes a bad day at school Davidson said “Full moons make students act like werewolves, feral animals.” When asked if this was true she told us “Oh, absolutely. My dad’s an astrophysicist so I know everything about all of this.”
One of her most memorable teaching moments was “When I had two students just show up with a fish tank.” The tank was full of water and two fishes. “The two fish ended up fighting and didn’t make it past a week… both the fish died on a Friday, and I just bought two new fish over the weekend and brought them in on Monday.” The students did not notice a difference.
Outside of school Mrs. Davidson enjoys movies, plays and musicals. Her favorite musicals are Les Mis, Wicked and Phantom of the Opera. She also enjoys graphic design and traveling.
Mrs. Davidson told us “I’ve been to France. I’ve been to England a couple times. I’ve been to Italy twice.” When she was in Junior High she lived on the island of Saipan for a couple months. She has also been to Guam and the Cook Islands.
Mrs. Davidson enjoys teaching about the Holocaust. “I love teaching about the Holocaust. So I love Holocaust education, Holocaust literature and that’s like my niche. She participated in the Auschwitz Birkenau Memorial Foundation Legacy Fellowship. They flew her out to Poland where she saw the Warsaw Ghetto and then spent time at Auschwitz. She has also been to Germany because of a layover that same trip.
Thank you Mrs. Davidson for putting up with me. She deserves a raise and more PTO.
