The Bingham High School Girls’ Tennis team had a phenomenal season this year with a 10 and 1 record. They placed first in Region and fought hard at State. It’s time to hit the highlights.

Against Riverton, they won 5-0. Players like captain Kaitlyn Oniki (12th grade) helped Bingham secure that match. Riverton played against Bingham once more and never had a chance. Next, Mountain Ridge fell to the Miner might with an end score of 5-0. The matches against Copper Hills, West Jordan, and Herriman ended in victory with scores of 5-0 and 4-1.

Matches are played between single and double teams. “We did very good at Region,” said Mckaylee Maybe (12th grade). “We won first for the third time in a row.”

In an average tennis match, the two competing schools play best of five matches to determine overall standings and rankings. The Bingham team easily won Region and went on to play at State.

Unfortunately, they did not win at State but had a good showing. Ally Tanner made it through the Thursday round onto round two the following Saturday, Oct. 2.

“We played very hard teams in the second round,” said Mckaylee. Even though Bingham did not win State, they had a successful year and there was plenty to be learned for next year.
