Dear Me

Dear Me

Dear me,

First of all, you made it. You’ve been through 12 years of school so far, some better than others, all to get to this point. You’re finally about to graduate! You’ve dedicated late nights, long hours, and sometimes early mornings all to get to this point. And it was worth it.

Although you never necessarily enjoyed high school, plenty of good things came out of it. You met some of your greatest friends, had some of the greatest teachers, and experienced a couple things that you would only do in high school (some of which are probably better left unsaid). Although you never went to a football game (I know okay, I know), I still think you had an overall quality time. You may not have always been totally up for showing your school spirit, but deep down I think you really do love Bingham High. You spent three years of your life there, putting countless hours into Orchestra Concerts, Musical Orchestras, this year’s Concerto Night, and not to forget the Newspaper. Now between you and me, that seems like school spirit.

And although high school was fun, many bigger things are coming. You have your entire life ahead of you, and you’re just getting started. One of the most important things to remember, and one of the most important things I’ve learned, is to not let anybody else influence what you want to do. If you have a dream, chase it, and don’t let anybody keep you from reaching it. I know it sounds cheesy, but quite often the only reason you haven’t done something you want is because others have kept you from doing it. I used to base all of my decisions around what others wanted me to do, and realized I was never quite happy with what I was doing. After realizing the only way to make myself happy was to do what I truly wanted, it changed everything for me. And as we move on to a different part of life, you don’t have to worry about anyone else right now. It’s your life, and you need to live it in the best way possible for you. Of course there will be bumps in the road along the way, and you’ll need friends or family to help you out along those bumps. But overall it’s your life, so don’t allow fear, or other people to set you back farther than they may have already.

And now, last but not least, I want you to remember how you’ve become who you are now. Remember the people who’ve influenced you, the work that has influenced you, and all the other ups and downs in between. Through everything, I believe you’ve truly become a better human being. And don’t lose all the things you’ve learned as you continue in life, those things are what have gotten you to this point, and they will continue to take you farther. Overall, you’ve done great. You’ve worked as hard as you can to get to this point, and don’t you ever forget all the incredible times you had along the way.

From,

You
